Ok, so they’ve agreed to give the nudist lifestyle a go and are looking to you for some guidance…so what now? How do you ensure you’re taking the right approach with guiding your partner into it? 

Some people like to dive into things head first, and some like to go at a snail’s pace…read the situation. Ask them what they’re comfortable with. Give them options! Below are some tips to help get you started on getting them started. Most importantly, remember to keep the lines of communication open and consult with them on what they might like to try and how they might like to approach it. 

WHERE TO START? 

HOME

For those who might like to take it one step at a time, the privacy of your own home is a great place to start! When people ask me ‘how do I get more comfortable being naked?’, I always respond with ‘start in the privacy of your own home!’ Get them comfortable with their own nudity first and foremost.

You could do this by encouraging them to do everyday things in the nude at home where they can feel safe and comfortable. Some home activities to try in the nude might include administrative tasks, household chores, sleeping, watching tv etc. I recommend checking out my YouTube video below: The Home Nudist - 5 tips to help you get more comfortable being naked’ for some tips and ideas to pass on to them (or share the video with them!).  

AIRBNB

You could then book an AirBnB to stay at with the intention of spending the majority of the time in the nude (the AirBnB doesn’t necessarily have to be a nudist place either). This gives them the opportunity to try being naked in a place that isn’t home…to gently get them out of their comfort zone where there is still a sense of privacy and discretion. NUDE BEACH

Once they’re ready to take it outside of the home and into a more public space, you could suggest heading to a reputable nude/clothing-optional beach. If, at this point, they are only interested in experiencing and learning to get comfortable being naked around others without necessarily wanting to socialise with other nudists, I would recommend a reputable beach over a resort at this point. At a beach, people usually mind their own business (for the most part!), whereas retreats and resorts are more of a place and opportunity to be social and engage with other nudists (albeit not compulsory either!). This just gives them the opportunity to get familiar with being naked around others without necessarily feeling like they need to engage with other nudists. 

PS…reputable is super critical here, especially if it is their first time. You don’t want to make the mistake of going to a beach with a ‘sleazy’ reputation and having their first social nude experience be an unpleasant one, because this may deter them from wanting to continue the journey. The last thing we want to do is put a sour taste in their mouth when it comes to social nudity. In saying all of this, we must (unfortunately) be aware that there are potentially still lurkers and those who may go to these beaches for the wrong reasons. Be transparent about these realities. 

Go to a beach that has a good reputation amongst the nudist community. If you’re unsure, be willing to put your feelers out and ask (call up a nude resort in the area, message a nudist organisation/club/group you may know of…get first-hand opinions in this circumstance). 

NUDE RETREAT/RESORT

After getting the hang of being naked around strangers, you might like to put the idea out there about going to a nudist retreat/resort (some nudists only like to stick to beaches, whilst others also like the clubs/resorts/retreats). As I mentioned earlier, nudist retreats/resorts are a great place to meet other nudists…but in saying that, of course you can still be there without having to socialise…just like at a textile retreat. Socialise or keep to yourself as much as you like. In these environments though, I find that there are more opportunities to socialise and chat with others because of the communal spaces…whether it be for eating or perhaps there’s a games area, for example (let’s face it, Petanque is always a hit at nudist resorts!).

So whether you’re both looking to just have a quiet weekend away where you can be naked and enjoy one another’s company, or whether you’re both open to being more social and meeting other nudists…nudist retreats/resorts are a great opportunity for either. I find that meeting other nudists is also a great way to get recommendations for nude beaches, events, resorts and nakations (naked vacations) etc.

NUDE EVENTS

Perhaps they like to do yoga, or you like to go camping…there are an abundance of nude events that you can enjoy these days. You could bring up the idea of going along to a naked yoga class if yoga is what they enjoy! PS…Look no further! 

If you’d like to find out what nude events may be happening in your area, I would suggest finding a reputable nudist organisation/local club where you can be kept in the loop about all the nude fun in your area.

Either way, there are plenty of options these days…especially with online events. Online nude events and livestreams are also a great way to build your confidence and enjoy getting more comfortable doing nude activities from the comfort of your own home. As you can see, there are plenty of options available to you. It is just a matter of communicating with your partner and respecting their journey. Be grateful that your partner is entrusting faith in you to guide them through such a transformational and vulnerable journey.
