boBRENE: Why my best friend and I pretended to be lesbians to get into this amazing nudist retreat.
TO BE HONEST, THEIR ‘COUPLES-ONLY’ POLICY HAD ME RATHER INTRIGUED.
I thought that, perhaps, it was a swingers-friendly retreat; and whilst I am not a practicing swinger, of course I was damn curious and keen as hell to check it out (I mean, it’s me we’re talking about)! Not wanting to ask the question outright on the phone, my best friend and I had our backstory down pat. So, also not wanting to be denied access, we ventured to boBRENE, a couples-only boutique naturist retreat in the Gold Coast Hinterland of South East Queensland, pretending to be a lesbian couple. What started out as a stealth operation turned out to be a fun adventure that resulted in us stumbling across a haven for nudists where we also formed an amazing friendship with married couple and owners of boBRENE, Bob and Rene.

Having moved to Queensland only recently at the time, I was on the search for some nudist retreats in my area that I could potentially hang out at. ‘boBRENE’ (pronouncd ‘boe-brene’) popped up in my search. After making a call to inquire about a day visit, I was informed that it was a ‘couples-only’ retreat. My ears pricked up. ‘Ooooh’, I thought to myself, ‘It’s one of those nudist places’. I was instantly curious. At the time, my partner wasn’t up for the visit, so I was eager to find a way around the rules. I remembered that my nude buddy/best friend was coming up from Victoria to visit me in the next few weeks, so I quickly phoned her and the plan was put into action. We could not wait!
On the morning of 16 November 2016, I made a call to boBRENE and spoke with Rene. With my best friend by my side, the booking was confirmed! We were allowed to be given the address, and subsequently the gate code, only once we had confirmed and paid for our booking over the phone (a safety and privacy measure boBRENE have in place). Now, I don’t know exactly what I was expecting on arrival, but upon the gates opening and entering the property, we were pleasantly greeted with lush garden and became engulfed in a pristine nature setting. Slowly driving along the lengthy and manicured driveway, there were wallabies bouncing around and the sound of song from a plethora of birds.
FIRST IMPRESSION : GOB-SMACKED. IT WAS AS IF WE HAD SERIOUSLY ENTERED INTO A PIECE OF PARADISE. IT WAS BEYOND STUNNING!

As the property is nestled amongst 6.125 ha of pristine Australian bush land, there was instantly a sense of privacy, intimacy and serenity. As we pulled up at the end of the driveway we spotted Bob, in nothing but his tool belt, touching up their already well-manicured garden. He preceded to put down his tools and shook both our hands. Assisting us into their beautiful homestead, we were then introduced to his lovely and completely naked wife, Rene. Instantly, we were made to feel at home.
Before showing us around the property, we all made our way to the recreational room where, and without a slight bit of hesitation, my best friend and I excitedly de-robed and joined in on the nudity. As Bob and Rene so graciously showed us around their stunning property, they laid down the rules and, without us even having to raise the topic, they disclosed that their retreat was a non-sexual environment and that they DO NOT cater to swingers. Well, that was that! My question was answered.
THEY ARE NOT SWINGERS AND ADAMANTLY INSISTED THAT THEY DO NOT CATER FOR THOSE SORTS OF PARTIES/ACTIVITIES.
They are strictly a couples-only boutique naturist retreat for adults only, operating between the months of September and May. It is their home in which they are quite particular with what sort of environment they want to set and be in (all to be explained in my soon-to-be-released tell-all interview with the married nudists!).

Well, what isn’t there to do at boBRENE?!
We spent the first couple of hours or so lounging around and swimming in the pool. After using the facilities in the communal area to make lunch and coffee, we indulged in some naked table tennis. Then there is the mini-tennis court (half the size of an actual one) and there we were, suns out buns out, racquet in hand and in nothing but a pair of sneakers. Going hard at it on the court, the thing that surprised me most during my first time playing nude tennis was the fact that my best friend was actually rather decent at the game! I had no idea and was genuinely surprised! Other than that, I would highly recommend nude tennis if you get the chance. It was definitely one of the highlights of our first-time visit.
Definitely more swift on the court without the extra weight of clothing. Nude tennis, a definite must-do when visiting boBRENE.
Feeling a little worn out, my best friend and I made our way back over to the pool where we got into the spa with Bob and Rene to wind down and relax in the late-afternoon summer sun. As we all got to know each other a little better, we all laughed as Rene admitted to assuming my best friend and I were a couple. Up until that moment, our ‘relationship status’ hadn’t been mentioned. Unable to hold it in any longer and with plans to revisit, we came clean.
THE TRUTH WAS OUT, WE WERE JUST A PAIR OF NUDIE BEST FRIENDS WANTING TO CHECK OUT THIS PIECE OF PARADISE.
Bob and Rene were totally fine having us come as a pair, and we have since visited together on multiple occasions and have formed a wonderful friendship with the lovely couple.
Truth be told, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been mistaken to be a couple…
As the property also backs onto the Tamborine State Forest, there is also an awesome walking track if you’re feeling energetic and adventurous. The only time I have tried to do the walking track was when I forgot my sneakers and unfortunately my sandals at the time were not sufficient enough for the hike. The Australian bush proved too tough on my poor little feet and, whilst I am a practiced barefoot bandit, even this was a little too intense for me! So, note to self and anyone intending on visiting boBRENE: bring shoes if you intend on doing the walking track!
I would recommend doing the scenic walking track…with shoes on!!!
So whether you’re merely wanting to relax amongst the serene surroundings of boBRENE, or wanting to do some nude activities, boBRENE caters to it all!
IT’S A GREAT PLACE IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR PLENTY TO DO, OR FOR NOTHING TO DO AT ALL.
It covers both ends of the spectrum! Please note that it is adults only, and personally I love it this way, and so do they! It is there to add to that sense of tranquility that is ever-so-present at boBRENE.

boBRENE exceeded any expectations I may have had, and did not let me down in the slightest! I would highly recommend this piece of nudie paradise to any practicing nudists, or anyone curious about trying their hand at a nudist lifestyle for the first time. It provides for the perfect environment for first-timers. If the thought of being on a beach for your first public nude experience freaks you out, these types of boutique and non-sexual environments are perfect for it! If you have a partner who is considering trying out nudism with you, this is the perfect place to start.
So if you’re ever passing through the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, and are looking for a naked getaway, head into the peace and quiet of the lush Gold Coast Hinterland where this gem of a nudie haven can be found. Bob and Rene are such gracious hosts and the environment provides for a non-intimidating experience. If anything, I’m sure you’ll be wanting to take it all off and get the most from the experience. I guarantee you won’t want to leave, and when you finally do, you probably won’t want to be putting your clothes back on! A place like this will have you hooked on the lifestyle and see it in the way all of us nudies already do!
